While available in 86 countries, its performance varies by region—India remains its largest market with 67 million users, while the United States has around 51 million Google Wallet users, representing 15% of the US population.
We have covered the complete Google Pay and Google Wallet usage statistics in this post. Take a deeper look at the demographics of both platforms.
Google Pay Users Globally
There are 150 million Google Pay users in the world as of 2025, which is 1.8% of the global population. This number will rise to 300 million by 2028, a 100% increase in a 3-year span.
Although Google Pay is available in around 86 countries for both Android & Wear OS, Apple Pay remains the leader in the segment.
Google Pay’s biggest market is in India, where it has 67 million users, which is still a smaller share in the market of over 390 million UPI users in the country.

Google Wallet Users In The United States
There are around 51 million Google Wallet users in the United States as of 2025, an increase of 4.8% from the previous year. This number is set to increase to 57 million by 2028.
This means that 15% of the US population uses Google Pay for their payment needs. A YouGov research shows that Google Wallet ranks among the five most popular mobile payment apps used by US shoppers.
Demographics of US Google Wallet Users
PayPal remains the most widely used mobile payment app among Americans, with 39% of users choosing it. Zelle and Venmo follow, each at 17%, while Apple Pay sits at 14%. Google Wallet comes in fifth at 9%, with Google Pay trailing at just 4%, a gap that could close as Google transitions users to Wallet in 2024.
Age-Based Usage Patterns Among The U.S. Google Pay and Wallet Users
Google Wallet experiences its highest adoption among adults aged 18 to 54, with 10 to 12% of people in this age range using it, which is double or more compared to Google Pay.
Usage drops significantly among those 55 and older, where only 4% use Google Wallet and 1% use Google Pay, showing a potential growth opportunity if Google can better appeal to older demographics.

All US adults | 9% | 4% |
Age 18–24 | 10% | 6% |
Age 25–34 | 12% | 6% |

Income and Adoption Rates
Higher-income Americans, particularly those earning $100,000 or more annually, are more inclined to use Google Wallet. This suggests that digital payment tools like Wallet and Google Pay are most popular among affluent consumers who are early adopters of financial technology.

Google Pay Usage Growth in the UK (2023–2024)
Between Q1 2023 and Q4 2024, Google Pay usage for both in-person and online payments in the UK saw a steady upward trend. In-person payments rose from 27% in Q1 2023 to 37% by Q4 2024, showing a 10% increase over the period. Online transactions followed a similar upward trend, growing from 22% to 32%, a rise of 10% as well.
While in-person payments consistently outpaced online payments across all quarters, the gap between the two remained steady, narrowing only slightly from 5 points at the start (27% vs. 22%) to 5 points at the end (37% vs. 32%). This indicates strong overall adoption of Google Pay, with demand growing across both payment methods rather than shifting from one to the other.
